SNIPE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS

European Championships Underway

Eighty-three teams representing 15 nations will be on the starting line in Gargnano, Italy on the famous Lake Garda to vie for the Snipe European Championship August 21-27.

Italy hosted the first European Championship in 1950, and 5 more since. The Europeans are held in the non-World Championship years.
Spanish teams have won the past 9 European Championships however the 2021 event welcomed non-Europeans and the event was won by Ernesto Rodriguez and Kathleen Tocke (USA) but the trophy went to the top European sailors, Jordi Triay Pons and Cristian Vidal (ESP). Both teams have returned to Italy for 2023 and should be in competition along with Pablo Fresneda (2006) with Javier Lopez Fernandez (ESP).

Conditions for the regatta looks challenging with a high-pressure system and very high temperatures predicted for the week.  The northerly Peler wind may have competitors racing early in the morning.

Competitors are finishing registration and measurement with Opening Ceremonies scheduled for Tuesday evening.  Racing begins on Wednesday, August 23 with 2 races scheduled per day with the final day on Sunday, August 27.
