2023 Snipe Europeans Racing Venue

Circolo Vela Gargnano is located in the western side of the middle area of Lake Garda just south of the town of Gargnano. Despite its position south of the Alps, the lake benefits from a special Mediterranean climate, different from the typical continental of the surroundings.

The clubhouse is inside a modern marina offering all the facilities needed for a high level sailing championship. The marina parking lot can provide space for up to 90 snipes, with 2 slipways; if there are more competitors the old harbour, only 200 meters from the club, will be used. One slipway is available in the old harbour. The trailers parking is just behind the club.

During summertime the typical Lake Garda wind, “Ora”, blows in the afternoon from south up to 12 knots in smooth water. In the morning the “Peler” blows from north up to 20 knots with high swells. The racing area is in front of the club, but depending on the wind conditions it can be moved to north. Due to the extreme depth of the lake, from 200 to 300m in the racing area, GPS self driven marks are used to facilitate the course setting and to allow faster course changes.
